Litanies
La litanie est une prière formée d'une longue suite d'invocations à Dieu, à Jésus-Christ, à la Vierge Marie,
aux saints, dites par un célébrant, ses assistants ou les chantres et suivies d'une formule récitée ou chantée par l'assemblée.
Dans le catholicisme, au début du xviie siècle, le pape Clément VIII, face à la multiplication des litanies locales, n'approuva la publication que des seules litanies des saints, et Litanies de Lorette. A ces litanies se sont ajoutées d'autres litanies approuvées par l'Eglise catholique romaine, notamment les Litanies du Cœur de Jésus, les litanies du Saint Nom de Jésus, les litanies de la Sainte Vierge et les litanies de saint Joseph.
