La supplication est une prière ardente et insistante, exprimée dans la conscience que Celui à qui nous la présentons est puissant comme aussi seul en mesure d’y répondre.
La supplication évoque la pensée de la nécessité absolue d’obtenir la chose implorée, bien que l’humilité et la soumission soient requises dans de telles prières. Daniel pouvait dire : «Écoute, ô notre Dieu, la prière de ton serviteur et ses supplications... ce n’est pas à cause de nos justices que nous présentons devant toi nos supplications, mais à cause de tes grandes compassions» (Dan. 9:17, 18). «Prête l’oreille, ô Éternel, à la voix de mes supplications», dit David (Ps. 140:6).
