Psalm 49
49.1
(49: 1) To the Chief Musician. Of the sons of Korah. Psalm. (49: 2) Hear this, all of you peoples, Give ear, all of you dwellers of the world,
49.2
(49: 3) Young and old, rich and poor!
49.3
(49: 4) My mouth will utter wise words, And my heart thinks full of meaning.
49.4
(49: 5) I lend an ear to the sentences which are inspired to me, I open my song to the sound of the harp.
49.5
(49: 6) Why should I fear in times of calamity, When the iniquity of my adversaries envelops me?
49.6
(49: 7) They trust in their wealth, and boast of their great wealth.
49.7
(49: 8) They cannot redeem each other, Nor give God the price of redemption.
49.8
(49: 9) The redemption of their soul is dear, And will never take place;
49.9
(49:10) They will not live forever, They will not avoid the sight of the pit.
49.10
(49:11) For they will see it: the wise die, and the fool and the foolish perish, and they leave their property to others.
49.11
(49:12) They imagine that their houses will be forever, That their dwellings will endure from generation to generation, They whose names are honored on earth.
49.12
(49:13) But the man who is in honor has no endurance; he is like the beasts that are slaughtered.
49.13
(49:14) This is their way, their folly, and those who follow them delight in their speech. -Pause.
49.14
(49:15) Like a flock they are put into hell; Death makes them food; And soon the upright trample them under foot, Their beauty vanishes, Hades is their home.
49.15
(49:16) But God will save my soul from hell, for he will take me under his protection. -Pause.
49.16
(49:17) Do not be afraid because a man is enriched, because the treasures of his house are multiplied;
49.17
(49:18) For he takes nothing away by dying, his treasures do not come down after him.
49.18
(49:19) No matter how happy he is during his life, No matter how much we praise you for the pleasures you give yourself,
49.19
(49:20) Nevertheless you will go to the abode of your fathers, who will never see the light again.
49.20
(49:21) A man of honor who has no understanding is like beasts that are slaughtered.
