Saint Maurus or Maur, son of Equitius, a Roman senator, was born in Rome around 512 and died around 584. He was the first of the disciples of Saint Benedict and lived with him in the Abbey of Mount Cassin in Nursia. According to legend, when Saint Benedict sent him to Gaul, to edify the people there by his example and holiness, he founded the Abbey of Glanfeuil, the first Benedictine abbey in Anjou. Saint Maurus is the patron saint of charcoal burners, boilermakers and gravediggers. He performed many miracles and did a great deal of good in the regions he crossed. He is celebrated on 15th January.
Saint Maurus is invoked against the head cold or coryza.

INVOCATION:
We beg you, Lord, through the intercession of Saint Maurus, to make us agreeable to your majesty, so that we may obtain through your prayers the spiritual graces and the healings that we hope for from your goodness. We pray to you through Our Lord Jesus Christ. So be it.
Saint Maurus, from any pernicious cold, deliver us through your prayers.

PRAYER:
O my Jesus! your thorns are roses to me, and your passion is paradise to me. So be it.
