Saints healing physical illnessesSaint Matthias is invoked to be cured or preserved from smallpox or pox. He is particularly honoured in Rome, in the Church of Sainte-Marie-Majeure where some of his relics are kept. This holy apostle evangelised Judea for more than thirty years. His word, inspired by God, attracted him to all those who sought the truth. He formed many disciples and sent them all over the world to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
INVOCATION:
Lord, God of goodness, multiply your grace upon us, since you have multiplied the number of our intercessors with You, and grant us in this cruel disease of smallpox all the help that we expect and that we hope for in prayers and of the merits of Saint Matthias and Saint Ritte, your pious servant. We pray to you through Our Lord Jesus Christ. So be it.
Saint Matthias, who preserve or cure smallpox, pray for us, we beg you.
PRAYER:
Ô! what salvation in the love of Jesus for us! The nails, the crown of thorns, the wounds of Jesus, everything cries out to us that the Man-God on the cross is a more than sufficient victim for our redemption. The pain, crossing his sacred body, penetrates to his heart, so that it is henceforth impossible for him not to have pity on our weakness: for on all his wounds we can read in characters visible to all eyes, that the Lord is gentle, good and merciful to us. No one, in fact, is more merciful than the one who gives his life to save the unfortunate condemned to eternal death. So be it.
