Prayer
Lord, we turn our gaze to you at the hour when this face which is dear to us disappears: Grant him to see you face to face, and strengthen our hope of seeing him again with you, For ever and ever.
Brief reading: Colossians 3, 3-4
You died with Christ, and your life remains hidden with him in God. When Christ appears, your life, then you too will appear with him in full glory.

Losing a loved one is often a daunting ordeal.
If we consider death as the end of biological life, it is also a passage to the fullness of real life. Praying for a deceased person is asking that he or she may experience this passage of heavenly joy. Remember these words from Sacred Scripture: "It is a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that they may be delivered from their sins" (2M 12:46).
