Novena Mercy
Novena to the Divine Mercy that Jesus asked Saint Faustina to write and recite before the Feast of Mercy. It begins on Good Friday.
"I desire that during these nine days you will bring souls to the source of my Mercy, so that they may draw strength and relief, as well as all the graces they need in the difficulties of life and especially at the hour of death. Every day you will bring to my Heart a new group of souls and immerse them in the immensity of my Mercy. And I will lead them all to my Father's house. You will do this in this life and in the next. I will refuse nothing to any soul that you bring to the source of my Mercy. And every day you will implore my Father, in the name of my painful Passion, to grant you graces for these souls. I answered: Jesus, I do not know how to make this novena, nor which souls to lead first to Your Most Merciful Heart. Jesus answered that He would tell me every day which souls I should lead to His Heart.
Day 1
"Today, bring to Me all humanity, especially sinners. Immerse them in the immensity of my Mercy. You will thus console Me for the bitter sadness into which the loss of souls plunges Me".
Most Merciful Jesus, whose very nature is to have pity on us and to forgive us, do not look at our sins, but at the trust we have in Your infinite goodness. Receive us into the abode of Your Most Merciful Heart and do not allow us to leave it for eternity. We beseech You by the love which unites You to the Father and the Holy Spirit.
O Almighty Mercy of God,
Help of the sinner,
O ocean of infinite love and mercy,
You help those who pray to You with humility.
Eternal Father, cast a look of Mercy on all humanity, and especially on poor sinners, enclosed in the Most Merciful Heart of Jesus. Through His painful Passion, have mercy on us, that your Almighty Mercy may be glorified for ever and ever. Amen.
Second day
"Today bring to Me the souls of priests and nuns, and immerse them in My unfathomable Mercy. They have made my bitter torment last long. Through them, as through channels, my Mercy flows over humanity".
Most Merciful Jesus, from whom comes all that is good, multiply your graces in us, so that we may perform the acts of Mercy with dignity, and that our neighbour may glorify the Father of Mercy who is in Heaven.
Out of the Sea of Mercy,
The fountain of divine Love dwells in pure hearts,
Sparkling as the star,
Clear as the dawn.
Eternal Father, cast a glance of Mercy on this group of chosen ones in the heart of your vineyard: the priestly and religious souls. Grant them the benefits of your blessing. For the sake of the Heart of your Son which is their home, grant them the power of your light, that they may lead others on the path of salvation, and that they may all together pay homage to your unfathomable Mercy for eternity. Amen.
Day Three
"Today, bring to Me all the pious and faithful souls and immerse them in the ocean of My Mercy. These souls consoled me on the way to Calvary. They were that drop of consolation in an ocean of bitterness".
Most Merciful Jesus, who abundantly bestows the treasure of your Mercy on all, receive us all into the abode of your Most Compassionate Heart. And do not let us leave it for eternity, I beg You, by this inconceivable love with which Your Heart burns for the Heavenly Father.
Impenetrable wonders of Mercy,
Unfathomable to the sinner as well as the just,
When you cast a glance of pity upon us,
You draw us all to Your Love!
Eternal Father, cast a glance of Mercy on the faithful souls, inheritance of your Son. Through his painful Passion, grant them your blessing and surround them with your unceasing protection so that they may not lose the love and treasure of the holy faith, but may glorify your infinite Mercy with the choir of Angels and Saints for all eternity. Amen.
Fourth day
"Today, bring to Me the pagans and those who do not yet know Me. I thought of them also during My painful Passion, and their future zeal consoles My Heart. Immerse them in the immensity of My Mercy".
Most Compassionate Jesus, who are the light of the world, receive into the abode of your Most Compassionate Heart the souls of the pagans and of those who do not yet know You. May the rays of your Grace illuminate them, so that they too may glorify with us the wonders of your Mercy. And do not let them leave the abode of your Most Compassionate Heart.
Let the light of your love, my God,
Illuminate at last all the souls left in darkness,
And may they no longer hesitate to recognise You,
They sing with us the glory of your Mercy!
Eternal Father, cast a glance of Mercy on the souls of the pagans and of all those who do not yet know You, but who are enclosed in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. Draw them to the light of the Gospel. They do not know how great is the happiness of loving You. May they, too, glorify the munificence of your Mercy for ever and ever. Amen.
Fifth day
"Today, bring to Me the souls of heretics and apostates. Immerse them in the immensity of My Mercy. In My bitter Passion, they tore My Body and Heart, that is, My Church. When they return to the unity of the Church, then My Wounds will heal. And in this way they will relieve Me in my Passion".
Most Merciful Jesus, who are goodness itself, You do not refuse light to those who ask You. Receive into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart the souls of heretics and apostates. By Your light bring them back to the unity of the Church. Do not let them leave the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart, but let them also glorify the munificence of Your Mercy.
Even for those who tore the cloak of unity to pieces,
flow in Your Heart a fountain of mercy.
By the Almighty Power of Your Mercy, O God,
You can also remove these souls from error.
Eternal Father, cast a merciful eye upon the souls of heretics and apostates who, obstinately persisting in their errors, wasted Your bounties and abused Your graces. Do not look at their faults, but at the love of Your Son and His bitter Passion which He also suffered for them, since they too are enclosed in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. May they too glorify Your immense Mercy for ever and ever. Amen.
Sixth day
"Today, bring to Me the gentle and humble souls, as well as those of little children, and immerse them in My Mercy. They are the ones who most resemble my Heart. They comforted me in my bitter agony. I saw them watching over my altars like earthly Angels. On them I pour torrents of graces. My grace can only be received by souls full of humility. It is these souls in whom I place my trust".
Most Merciful Jesus, who said Yourself: "Learn from Me that I am meek and humble of Heart", receive into the abode of your Most Compassionate Heart the meek and humble souls, as well as those of little children. These souls fill the whole of Heaven with delight, and are especially loved by the Father in Heaven. They form a bouquet of flowers before the divine throne whose fragrance God alone breathes. These souls remain forever in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus, singing unceasingly the hymn of love and mercy for eternity.
The truly humble and gentle soul,
Already breathes Paradise on earth,
With a fragrance of humility its heart
Grey the Creator Himself.
Eternal Father, cast a merciful glance upon the gentle and humble souls, as well as upon those of the little children dwelling in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. It is these souls that most resemble your Son. The fragrance of these souls rises up from the earth to your throne. Father of Mercy and of all goodness, I implore You by the love and predilection You have for these souls, to kindly bless the whole world, so that all souls may sing together the glory of Your Mercy for eternity. Amen.
Seventh day
"Today, bring to Me the souls who venerate and glorify especially my Mercy and immerse them in it. These souls have shared most in the sufferings of my Passion. They are the ones who have penetrated most deeply into my soul. They are the living reflection of my Compassionate Heart. These souls will shine with a special brilliance in the future life. None of them will go to hell. I will defend each of them in particular at the hour of death".
Most Merciful Jesus, whose Heart is only love, receive into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart the souls who venerate and glorify more particularly the immensity of Your Mercy. Endowed with the very power of God, they go forward trusting in your Mercy in the midst of all torments and vexations. These souls are united to Jesus and carry the weight of all humanity on their shoulders. They will not be judged severely, but your Mercy will protect them in the moment of agony.
The soul that celebrates the goodness of the Lord
Is especially cherished by Him.
Near the source of life, it has found a home,
And draws a thousand graces from the Mercy of God.
Eternal Father, deign to cast a merciful glance upon the souls who celebrate and venerate your greatest attribute: your infinite Mercy. Enclosed in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus, they are a living Gospel. Their hands are full of acts of mercy. Filled with joy they sing the hymn of the Mercy of the Most High. I beseech Thee, show them Thy Mercy according to the hope and trust they have placed in Thee. May the promise of Jesus, who said: "I will defend, as My own Glory, the souls who venerate My infinite Mercy, all their lives. I will defend them especially at the hour of death.
Day Eight
"Today, bring to Me the souls who are in Purgatory and immerse them in the abyss of My Mercy. Let the streams of my Blood cool their burns. All these souls are very dear to Me, but they do Me justice. It is in your power to bring them some relief. Draw from the treasury of my Church all the indulgences, and offer them in their name. Oh, if you knew their suffering, you would unceasingly offer the alms of your prayers in their name, and pay their debts to My Justice".
Most Merciful Jesus, who said that You Yourself wanted Mercy, behold, I bring to the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart the souls of Purgatory, who are very dear to You, but who must nevertheless render an account to Your Justice. May the streams of Blood and Water gushing forth from your Heart extinguish the flames of the purifying fire, so that there too the power of your Mercy may be glorified.
From the terrible ardour of the purifying fire,
A complaint rises to your Mercy,
Asking for consolation, relief, coolness,
From the only streams of Water mingled with your Blood.
Eternal Father, deign to cast a glance of Mercy on the souls suffering in Purgatory, enclosed in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. I implore You through the painful Passion of Jesus, your Son, and through all the bitterness with which his most holy soul was inundated, to manifest your Mercy to the souls who are subject to your flawless Justice. May Your gaze take into account only the merits of the wounds of Jesus, Your Most Dear Son, for we believe that Your goodness and Your mercy are infinite.
Day Nine
"Today, bring to Me the indifferent and cold souls, and plunge them into the abyss of My Mercy. It is these souls that most painfully wound my Heart. They are the ones who, in the Garden of Olives, inspired in Me the greatest aversion. It is because of them that I said: "Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me"! For them, the last hope of salvation is to have recourse to my Mercy".
Most Compassionate Jesus, who is nothing but mercy, I bring to the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart the indifferent and cold souls. May these souls, whose coldness fills You with repulsion, find the flame of life in the fire of Your pure love. Most Compassionate Jesus, use the omnipotence of your Mercy: draw them into the very blaze of your love and communicate to them the fire of divine love, for You can do everything.
Fire and ice together must not be mixed,
For the fire will go out or the ice will melt.
But by Your infinite Mercy,
My God, You can make up for greater deficiencies.
Eternal Father, cast a glance of Mercy on the indifferent souls, who are nevertheless enclosed in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. Father of Mercy, I beseech You through the bitter Passion of Your Son and through His three-hour agony on the cross, allow these souls also to celebrate the abyss of Your Mercy.

Mercy comes from the Latin misereri which means to have mercy and cor (heart).
Mercy is the deep attitude of the being characterised by the loving disposition to forgive. Sensitivity to the misery and suffering of others and a fundamental benevolence towards one's neighbour. This is one of the attributes of God that explains his entire plan for the salvation of humanity.
God's goodness is infinite because it is one aspect of his mercy (Ps 86:5).
