Saint Gertrude of Helfta (January 6, 1256, November 17, 1302), also called Gertrude the Great, entered the Benedictine monastery of Helfta in Saxony, Germany at the age of 5, where she became abbess, a great theologian and a great mystic, she received the grace of invisible stigmata, benefited from symbolic visions and apparitions of Christ who united her to his Sacred Heart. Often sick, she suffered a long agony of 5 months completely abandoned to the Lord Jesus Christ. It is invoked for the cure of diabetes. Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI recounted his biography during his general audience on October 6, 2010.

The Novena to Saint Gertrude

Invocation

O most merciful Jesus, dispenser of all goodness and all graces, may all that heaven and earth contain praise you in return for this extreme goodness with which you have poured out in the heart of your servant, Saint Gertrude, l abundance of your mercies and graces. I dare to remind you, O Jesus, of the promise you have made to always and in all circumstances to fulfill the requests that may be addressed to you through Saint Gertrude. I therefore ask you, in the name of your blessed servant, not to let me go sorry, and to grant me the salutary effect of my request. Through Jesus Christ Our Lord who lives and reigns with God in the unity of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Prayer

Lord, always be a good shepherd to me, despite my ingratitude, and although I have often avoided your conduct, open to me the doors of your kingdom, and allow me to enter it through your holy wounds. Alas! you are overwhelmed with the most cruel sufferings, I want to take my share of it. Protect me with your holy passion; for without your scourging I would be scourged with the sharp rods of my sins; without your wounds I cannot escape the wounds of the demon, and without your death I would die in my hardness. Ah! how my soul could be enriched by all that you suffered for it! But I had the misfortune to run away from your cross and your passion, and that's why I became so poor. Woe to me! for in fleeing the reproach of your cross, as the world calls it, I have deserved to be despised by you, your angels, your saints, and all men. Amen.
