Let us place ourselves in the presence of God and adore him
I adore you, O my God, with the submission that the presence of your sovereign greatness inspires in me. I believe in you because you are the truth itself. I hope in you, because you are infinitely good. I love you with all my heart, because you are sovereignly lovable; and I love my neighbour as myself for your sake.
Let us thank God for the graces he has given us
What thanks shall I give to you, O God, for all the good things I have received from you? You have thought of me from all eternity; you brought me out of nothing, you gave your life to redeem me, and you still shower me every day with an infinite number of favours. Alas! Lord, what can I do in recognition of so many goodnesses? Join with me, blessed Spirits, in praising the God of mercies, who never ceases to do good to the most unworthy and ungrateful of His creatures.
Let us ask God to know our sins
Eternal source of light, Holy Spirit, dispel the darkness that hides from me the ugliness and malice of sin. Make me hate it so much, O God, that I may hate it as much as you hate it, and that I may fear nothing so much as to commit it in the future.

Ask God for forgiveness for our sins
Here I am, Lord, covered with confusion and filled with sorrow at the sight of my faults. I come to detest them before you, with a real displeasure at having offended a God so good, so kind and so worthy of being loved. Was this then, O God, what you should have expected from my gratitude, after having loved me to the point of shedding your blood for me? Yes, Lord, I have pushed my ingratitude too far. I ask you most humbly to forgive me, and I beseech you, O God, by the same goodness whose effects I have felt so many times, to grant me the grace to make a sincere penance for it, from this day until death.
Let us make a firm resolution to sin no more
How I wish, O God, that I had never offended you! But since I have been unfortunate enough to displease you, I will show you my repentance by behaving better than I have done up to now. From now on I renounce sin and the occasion of sin, especially that in which I have the weakness to fall more often. And if you deign to grant me your grace, as I ask and hope, I will try to fulfil my duties faithfully, and nothing will be able to stop me when it comes to serving you. So be it.

Let us recommend ourselves to God, to the Blessed Virgin and to the Saints
Bless, O my God, the rest I am about to take, to repair my strength, in order to serve you better. Holy Virgin, Mother of my God, and after him my firmest hope, St. Joseph, my good angel, my holy patron, intercede for me, protect me during this night, all the time of my life, and at the hour of my death. So be it.
Let us pray for the living and for the faithful departed
Pour out your blessings, O Lord, on my parents, my benefactors, my friends and my enemies. Protect all those whom you have given me as superiors, both spiritual and temporal. Help the poor, the prisoners, the afflicted, the travellers, the sick and the dying. Convert the heretics and enlighten the infidels.
God of goodness and mercy, have mercy also on the souls of the faithful who are in purgatory, especially those for whom I am obliged to pray. Give them rest and eternal light. So be it.
Prayer to all the saints
Most blessed souls, who have had the good fortune to attain glory, obtain for me two things from him who is our God and Father: that I may never mortally offend him, and that he may remove from me all that displeases him. So be it.
