The loss of a loved one can be one of the most painful parts of life. Grief and mourning come in many different stages and it is easy to let emotion consume you during these difficult times. Jesus Christ is a central figure in Christianity. He is regarded as the incarnation of God.

At about the age of thirty, Jesus left Nazareth and began an itinerant public life. He calls his disciples and walks with them through Judea and Galilee. He teaches, he heals the sick, casts out demons, walks on water, forgives sins, raises the dead. He is attentive to children. He shares meals, a wedding party, pilgrimages to Jerusalem. He lives as a Jewish believer, goes to the synagogue, observes the Sabbath. He weeps, gets angry, experiences sadness, fatigue and thirst, compassion and even anguish. Jesus is known for his natural authority.

Losing a loved one is often a daunting ordeal.
If we consider death as the end of biological life, it is also a passage to the fullness of real life. Praying for a deceased person is asking that he or she may experience this passage of heavenly joy. Remember these words from Sacred Scripture: "It is a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that they may be delivered from their sins" (2M 12:46).
