Saints for deceasedSaint Odilon was abbot of Cluny. He led his monks with a firm and fair hand and strove to make them live in holiness.
INVOCATION:
O God, who chose Saint Odilon to become not only a model of virtues and an instrument of great miracles, but also to be, close to your mercy, a powerful intercessor on behalf of souls who expiate in the sufferings of purgatory the faults of their past life: deign, O my God, to share with us, and to all those who are dear to us, in the merits and the powerful intercession of your blessed servant. We pray to you through Our Lord Jesus Christ. So be it.
Saint Odilon, powerful advocate of souls detained in purgatory, intercede for them.
PRAYER:
Ô! my God! it is your infinite love that brought you down among us; and nothing costs you when it comes to bringing the lost sheep back to the fold on your shoulders. O King of kings! who do not lack in any creature in its needs, and who give abundantly to each what its nature requires, give me your help; so that, renouncing the world, I may always follow you. So be it.

Losing a loved one is often a daunting ordeal.
If we consider death as the end of biological life, it is also a passage to the fullness of real life. Praying for a deceased person is asking that he or she may experience this passage of heavenly joy. Remember these words from Sacred Scripture: "It is a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that they may be delivered from their sins" (2M 12:46).
