May 12 : Prayer of Saint Francis de Sales
Remember, most sweet Virgin, that you are my Mother and I am your son; that you are powerful and I am a poor, weak man. I beg you, most sweet Mother, to govern and defend me in all my ways and actions. Do not say, gracious Virgin, that you cannot; for your beloved Son has given you all power, both in heaven and on earth. Do not say that you must; for you are the common Mother of all poor humans and especially of me.
If you could not, I would excuse you, saying: it is true that she is my mother and that she cherishes me as her son, but the poor thing lacks assets and power. If you were not my Mother, I would rightly wait, saying: she is rich enough to help me; but alas, not being my mother, she does not love me. Then, most sweet Virgin, since you are my Mother and you are powerful, how can I excuse you if you do not relieve me and lend me your help and assistance? You see, Mother, that you are compelled to grant all my requests.
For the honour and glory of your Son, accept me as your child, regardless of my miseries and sins. Deliver my soul and body from all evil and give me all your virtues, especially humility. Finally, present me with all the gifts, goods and graces that please the Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. So be it.
Let us pray: Mary, in this month dedicated to you, I come to you. You know all the intentions of my heart, I trust in you and in your intercession with Jesus your Son, our Saviour. Listen to my prayer...(express your intentions in silence)
