Saint Columbanus was born in Ireland. He was a sort of giant who made a name for himself by killing a bear with one punch. But as very strong men are often, he was gentle and humble of heart.
He came to France to become a monk. At Luxeuil Monastery, his virtues and the miracles he performed attracted a great crowd of people. When Saint Columbanus died, in 615, his soul was clearly seen to be detached from his body and ascend to Heaven where he was welcomed by the choir of angels.
Saint Columbanus is invoked against the obliteration of the arteries.

INVOCATION
O God who, through infinite goodness, have destined us to enjoy not only your divine friendship, but also the tender and devoted affection of your servant, make it for us one more motive to uplift our souls towards you, and to praise you unceasingly of all the goods with which you fill us. Through Our Lord Jesus Christ. So be it.
Saint Columbanus, whose friendship is so precious with God, pray for us.

PRAYER
O my Jesus! I hold your cross embraced and I cry out to you with the Patriarch: "I will not leave you until you have blessed me!" So feed me, O Lord! Bread of grace and drink of tears, until you wipe away my tears in the heavenly homeland, where you are eternally in your Father's bosom. So be it.
