Saints
Saint Anthony is invoked against contagious diseases and against diseases of the skin.
Saint Anthony, hermit, was born in Como, in Upper Egypt, in 251.
Eager to follow these words of Christ "If you want to be perfect, go, sell all that you have and give it to the poor", Saint Anthony withdrew into the desert after the death of his parents having distributed all his goods to the poor. .
God allowed demons to tempt him. And Saint Anthony fought and drove them away with the sign of the cross. Then he complained to God, saying to him, “Where were you then, Lord? "And God would answer him:" My son, I was with you and I was rejoicing in your victories."
Invocation
Almighty God, who love to glorify your servants, we humbly ask you to help us in our affliction, through the intercession of Saint Anthony, whom we implore on this day. Hear us, we beg you by N.-S. AD So be it.
Saint Anthony, whose protection is felt by those who invoke you, pray for us.
Prayer
Lord, hear my prayer, and may my cries reach you.
Do not turn your face away from me; whatever day I find myself afflicted, pay attention to my voice; in whatever day I call upon you, (answer me promptly, but especially today, that I am in dire need of your help.
For my days have vanished like smoke, and my bones have become as dry as the wood intended to kindle a fire.
I have been struck by the plagues of your anger, and my heart is withered, because I am reduced to all the horrors of extreme misery, because I lack bread to quench the hunger that devours me.
By dint of moaning, I only have skin stuck to my bones.
I have become like the pelican, which dwells in solitude; I have become like the owl that retreats into dark places.
I stayed up, I spent the nights without sleeping; I have become like a sparrow that stands alone under a roof.
My enemies reproach me all day long, and those who praised me before are cursing me.
Because I eat ashes like bread, and I mingle my tears with what I drink.
For I weep without ceasing at the sight of your anger and your indignation which I have drawn to myself by my iniquities; they have caused you, O my God, to overthrow me after having lifted me up.
For you, Lord, you endure forever, and the memory of your name will pass from generation to generation.
You will arise and have mercy on me; you will pull me out of the deep abyss into which I am plunged, because the time for your mercy has come.
Then the nations will say, The Lord has seen the prayer of him who was in humiliation, and he did not despise his request.
It is you, Lord, who founded the earth from the beginning, and the heavens are the work of your hands.
They will perish, but you will remain forever; they will age like a garment, and you will change them like a garment with which we cover ourselves.
But to you, you are still the same, and your years will never pass.
So the children of your servants will again dwell in the land which you gave to their fathers, and their seed will be brought there by your power to dwell there for ever. So be it.
