1. Under the shelter of your mercy, we take refuge, holy Mother of God!
Speaking the words of this antiphon with which the Church of Christ has prayed for centuries, we find ourselves before you today, O Mother, in the Jubilee Year of our Redemption.
We are united with all the pastors of the Church by a special bond, constituting a body and a quorum, in the same way that, according to the will of Christ, the Apostles constituted a body and a quorum with Peter.
It is in the bond of this unity that we pronounce the words of this present act, in which we wish to bring together once again the hopes and the anxieties of the Church in the world of this time.
Forty years ago - then again ten years later - your servant Pope Pius XII, having before his eyes the painful experiences of the human family, entrusted and consecrated the whole world to your Immaculate Heart, and especially the peoples who , by their situation, are in a particular way the object of your love and your concern.
This world of men and nations, we also have before our eyes today: the world of the second millennium which is about to end, the contemporary world, our world! Remembering the words of the Lord: “Go… of all nations, make disciples… and I am with you every day until the end of the world” (Mt 28, 19-20), the Church has revived, at the Second Vatican Council, the awareness of his mission in this world.
This is why, O Mother of men and peoples, you who know all their sufferings and their hopes, you who feel in a maternal way all the struggles between good and evil, between light and darkness, which shake the contemporary world, receive the call that, moved by the Holy Spirit, we address directly to your Heart, and with your love as Mother and Servant of the Lord, embrace our human world that we offer and consecrate to you, full of concern for the earthly and eternal fate of men and peoples.
We offer and consecrate to you in a special way those men and nations who are in particular need of this offering and consecration. “Under the shelter of your mercy, we take refuge, holy Mother of God! "Do not reject our prayers while we are in this trial!
2. Before you, Mother of Christ, before your Immaculate Heart, today we want, with the whole Church, to unite ourselves to the consecration that your Son made of himself to his Father out of love for us: “For they - he said - I consecrate myself, so that they too may be consecrated in truth ”(Jn 17:19). We want to unite with our Redeemer in this consecration for the world and for men, because in her divine Heart she has the power to obtain forgiveness and to provide reparation.
The power of this consecration lasts in all times, it embraces all men, peoples and nations, it surpasses all evil that the spirit of darkness is capable of awakening in the heart of man and in his history, and that, indeed, it has awakened in our time.
How deeply we feel the need for consecration for humanity and for the world, for our contemporary world, in the unity of Christ himself! In the redemptive work of Christ, in fact, the world must participate through the intermediary of the Church.
This is manifested in this Year of Redemption, the Extraordinary Jubilee of the whole Church.
In this holy year, blessed are you above all creatures, you the servant of the Lord, who obeyed in the fullest way this divine call!
Greetings, you who are entirely united, to the redemptive consecration of your Son!
Mother of the Church! Teach the people of God the paths of faith, hope and charity! Help us to live in the truth of the consecration of Christ for the whole human family of the contemporary world!
3. By entrusting to You, O Mother, the world, all men and all peoples, we also entrust to you the very consecration of the world and we place it in your maternal Heart.
O Immaculate Heart! Help us to overcome the threat of evil which so easily takes root in the hearts of men today and which, with its immeasurable effects, already weighs on present life and seems to close the way to the future!
From hunger and war, deliver us!
From nuclear war, untold self-destruction, all kinds of wars, deliver us!
From sins against the life of man from his earliest days, deliver us!
From the hatred and degradation of the dignity of the sons of God, deliver us!
From all kinds of injustice in social, national and international life, deliver us!
From the ease with which we trample on the commandments of God, deliver us!
From the attempt to extinguish the very truth of God in human hearts, deliver us!
From the loss of awareness of good and evil, deliver us!
From sins against the Holy Spirit, deliver us!
Hear, O Mother of Christ, this cry charged with the suffering of all men! Loaded with the suffering of entire societies!
Help us, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to overcome all the sin of man and the "sin of the world", sin in all its forms. May the infinite saving power of Redemption, the power of merciful Love arise once again in the history of the world! Let him stop the evil! May he transform consciousness! May the light of Hope manifest for all in your Immaculate Heart! Amen
John Paul II
