The reading of chapter 2 of the Epistle to the Hebrews is excellent for overcoming doubt or discouragement.

That is why we must cling all the more to the things we have heard, lest we be carried away from them.  For if the word spoken by angels has had its effect, and if every transgression and disobedience has received just recompense, how shall we escape, if we neglect so great a salvation, which was first spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by them that heard it, God supporting their testimony with signs and wonders and signs and wonders, and with the gifts of the Holy Spirit given according to his will?  Indeed, it is not to angels that God has subjected the world to come of which we speak.

Now there is a witness somewhere, saying, "What is man, that you should remember him? Or the son of man, that you should take care of him?  Thou hast brought him down for a little while under the angels,

Thou hast crowned him with glory and honour, Thou hast put all things under his feet. For in submitting all things to him, God has left nothing that was not submitted to him.  However, we do not yet see now that all things are subject to Him.  But we see Jesus, who was lowered for a little while under the angels, crowned with glory and honor because of the death He suffered, so that, by the grace of God, He might suffer death for all.  For it was fitting that he for whom and through whom all things are, and who would lead many sons to glory, should raise the Prince of their salvation to perfection by sufferings.  For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all of one.  Therefore he is not ashamed to call them brethren, when he says, I will proclaim your name to my brethren, I will praise you in the midst of the assembly.  And again, I will put my trust in thee.  And again, Behold, here am I and the children whom God hath given me.  So then, since the children share in the blood and in the flesh, He also shared in it Himself, so that He might destroy him who has the power of death, that is, the devil, by death, and deliver all those who, fearing death, were all their life held in bondage.  For surely he helpeth not angels, but the seed of Abraham.
Therefore he must have been made like his brethren in all things, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make atonement for the sins of the people: for having been tempted himself in that which he suffered, he is able to help those that are tempted.
