Stay with us, Lord, for the day is falling, and it is getting late (St. Luke, 24, 29). O you, peace, refuge and comfort to troubled hearts! stay with us, lest our charity grow cold, and our light be extinguished in the night; because the day is falling, and it is already late! Already my body gives way to the violence of the pains; death surrounds me, my conscience is troubled;
I shudder at the thought of your judgment, it is getting late, the day is fading: stay with us. I put my mind in your hands; in you alone is my salvation, towards you alone my eyes are raised. Remain with us, and that at my last hour, my soul being freed, by fervor, from the yoke of tribulations and sin, prayer and love prepare for it a sweet hospitality in the bosom of God. So be it.
