Virgin Mary Mercy SaintsThe following text is the Prayer "O Mother of mercies" by Saint Alphonsus Liguori (1696-1787), Doctor of the Catholic Church and Founder of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer.
Prayer
Most holy and immaculate Virgin, my Mother, O Mary, to you who are the Mother of my Lord, the refuge of sinners, I have recourse to you today, the most miserable of all. I venerate you, O great Queen, and I thank you for all the graces you have given me so far, especially for having delivered me from hell, which I have so often deserved. I love you, O my most lovable Sovereign, and for your love I pledge myself to serve you always, and to make every effort that you may be loved by others also.
I place in you all my hopes and all my salvation. Accept me as your servant, and receive me under your protection, O Mother of mercies. And since you are so powerful with God, deliver me from all temptations or obtain for me the strength to overcome them to the point of death. O Mother, through the love you bear to God, I beg you to assist me always, but especially at the last moment of my life. Do not abandon me until you see me safe in heaven, blessing you and singing your mercies throughout eternity. So I hope. So be it.

Mercy comes from the Latin misereri which means to have mercy and cor (heart).
Mercy is the deep attitude of the being characterised by the loving disposition to forgive. Sensitivity to the misery and suffering of others and a fundamental benevolence towards one's neighbour. This is one of the attributes of God that explains his entire plan for the salvation of humanity.
God's goodness is infinite because it is one aspect of his mercy (Ps 86:5).
