Saints against bitter enemiesSaint Apollonia was born in the 3rd century in Alexandria. During the bloody persecution of 248, Saint Apollonia, instead of fleeing, courageously remained in the city, fearing neither for her life nor for her property. When she was arrested, her executioners savagely threw stones in her face; his jaw was broken and all his teeth shattered.
Invocation:
Almighty and Eternal God, who inspired in this illustrious virgin and martyr such an ardent love for your majesty that she preferred to let all her teeth be pulled out and lose her life than to renounce her salvation and your divine love ; preserve us, please, by his intercession, from toothache, and never suffer that neither we nor our goods and possessions be devoured by disastrous flames; but make, Father of mercies, that our hearts be always, like that of Saint Apollonia, ablaze with love for you.
We pray to you through Our Lord Jesus Christ. So be it.
Saint Apollonia, you who are an effective patron of toothache, protect us with your prayers from all excessive ailments.
Prayer:
Crucify me with you, O holy spouse of my soul! So that, out of love for you, I died to the world and to myself; let me feel the pains which the nails produced in your hands and in your feet; may your heart, pierced by the spear, pour out upon me, with the blood and water which flowed from it on the cross, the blessings of your grace; so that, with my eyes still fixed on your nails, on the spear and on your wounds, I may accomplish the work of my salvation, and keep my heart in your love. So be it.
