Saints
Saint Andrew Avellin is invoked against the weakness of the constitution. He is also one of our most powerful intercessors against the risks of sudden and unforeseen death and obtains a gentle and Christian death for us.
Saint Andrew Avellin was born in 1521 in the kingdom of Naples. After brilliant studies, he became a lawyer. But, attracted by the Cross, he entered the order of the Theatins. God rewarded his zeal with wonders.
At the age of 87, he was struck with apoplexy at the foot of the altar where he was saying his mass; he was still able to receive communion. Before dying, the demon presented itself to him and Saint Andrew Avellino had to endure a terrible fight. He implored with all his soul the Blessed Virgin for whom he had always had a particular devotion; she came to assist him and the demon left. Saint Andrew Avellino died calmly on November 10, 1608.
INVOCATION
Deign, O my God and my Judge, to grant me, for the hour of my death, the special protection of Saint Andrew Avellino, whom your Church venerates as one of our powerful intercessors at this last hour. Make my death, through his prayers and intercession, be sweet and full of joy to come to you and enjoy your presence. We beg you, by N.-S. AD So be it.
Saint Andrew Avellino, who deliver us from all the traps of the devil, and who obtain healing for us, pray for us.
PRAYER
O suffering Jesus! I humbly bow down to you, and adore you, for you are my true salvation. Ah! Dispel my blindness, so that I can contemplate your deep humiliation on the cross, and the wounds that cover your body. Make me understand the august greatness and holiness of the sacrifice you offered on the cross to your Father in atonement for my sins, and those of the whole world. So be it.
