1st Reflection:

What is to die?
I will die! that is to say,
I will leave everything without exception ...
I will leave all the people
who are dear to me;
I will say an eternal farewell to them ...
I will leave all that is for my use ...
I will leave absolutely everything ...

What are the things
which I care more? ...
I will leave them like everything else.
You are seized with fear,
O my soul,
at the thought of this universal abandonment! ...
Yet it will be necessary! ... Alas!
what madness to attach
to what is happening so quickly!

2nd Reflection:

When and how will I die?
How long do I still have to live?
I do not know:
we die at any age ...
Will I have time to prepare for death?
I do not know...
I only know that a lot of people
even after a long illness,
die at the time
that they least expected.
Will I receive the last rites,
or will I die without confession? ...
I do not know,
I can suddenly lose my speech ....

3rd Reflection:

Am I ready to die?
If I had to die at this hour,
am I ready to leave everything? ...
Am I especially ready to appear
at the judgment of God? ...
Is there nothing that worries me? ...
Is my conscience perfectly still? ...
Have I nothing to fear for my confessions? ...
my communions? ...
the fulfillment of the duties of my state? ...
How imprudent to live
in a state where I wouldn't want to die!

for deceased

Losing a loved one is often a daunting ordeal.
If we consider death as the end of biological life, it is also a passage to the fullness of real life. Praying for a deceased person is asking that he or she may experience this passage of heavenly joy. Remember these words from Sacred Scripture: "It is a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that they may be delivered from their sins" (2M 12:46).
