Saints slander against jealousy lawsuitSaint Mary the Sorrowful is so called because of the unjust sufferings inflicted upon her by the malignity of men. She was born in Belgium in the 13th century and, after spending several years of her life in penance, she was accused of a theft she had not committed and was sentenced to death.
INVOCATION:
O God, who never ceases to show us how much devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, Our Mother, is pleasing to you, by the multiplied wonders which we obtain through her intercession, may we, through the merits and sufferings of Blessed Mary the Sorrowful, obtain the favours which she has asked for us from the Queen of Heaven. We pray to you through Our Lord Jesus Christ. So be it.
Blessed Mary Most Sorrowful, preserve us, by your prayers, from all pains, wounds and unjust condemnations.
LET US PRAY:
Nature, O my God, is so ingenious in defending her interests; the heart of man, jealous of his freedom and impatient under the yoke, becomes so skilful in allowing itself against you and justifying its revolts, that for too long and too often I have listened to the pretexts of a bitter spirit, a lively spirit, a rebellious spirit, and I have followed its movements.
But he must at last bend; and after the examples you have given us in your mortal life, he is no longer permitted to have any other feeling than that of humble and blind submission: Submission in the most unfortunate setbacks and the saddest accidents; submission in calamities, in needs, in crossings, in all the miseries of life; submission in spite of repugnance, in spite of upheavals of the heart, in spite of all the noise and all the comebacks of the most lively and ardent passions; submission in the midst of the deepest darkness, in the midst of discouragement, desolation and languor, and without a single drop of that heavenly dew which you, Lord, at certain times and on certain souls; submission which is pure and supernatural, in which nothing human, nothing that the world can offer to relieve or distract, is mixed; submission which is general and complete, which embraces all events, whatever they may be or may be, and in each event even the slightest peculiarities: For this, my God, is the submission which I owe to you and from which I cannot depart without forgetting what you are and what I am; it has many difficulties for me, and I find many obstacles in it; all that is carnal in my heart forms continual opposition to it, and this internal war exposes me to harsh assaults; but with your grace, Lord, reason and religion will repress my flesh; or if they cannot impose silence on it, in the middle of its cries and without listening to its murmurings, I will not cease repeating this word: "Thy will be done, and not mine...
