Psalms 86, 87 et 88 : To do a lot of good

We recommend that you read these three psalms often, because by getting into the habit of reading them, you can do a lot of good and avoid a lot of harm.

Psalm 86
86.1
Prayer of David. O Lord, give ear, hear me! Because I am unhappy and needy.
86.2
Keep my soul, for I am pious! My God, save your servant who trusts in you!
86.3
Have mercy on me, Lord! 'Cause I scream at you all day.
86.4
Rejoice the soul of thy servant, for unto thee, Lord, I lift up my soul.
86.5
Because you are good, Lord, you forgive, You are full of love for all those who call on you.

O Lord, give ear to my prayer, Be attentive to the voice of my supplications!

I call on you in the day of my distress, For you answer me.

There is none like You among the gods, Lord, and nothing is like your works.

All the nations which you have made will come and bow down to your face, Lord, and give glory to your name.

For you are great, and you work wonders; You alone are God.

Teach me your ways, O Lord. I will walk in your fidelity. Set my heart to fear your name.

I will praise you with all my heart, Lord my God! And I will glorify your name forever.

For great is thy lovingkindness towards me, and thou hast delivered my soul from the depths of the dead.

O God! the proud have risen up against me, A troop of violent men are after my life; They don't focus their thoughts on you.

But you, Lord, are a merciful and compassionate God, slow to anger, rich in kindness and faithfulness;

Look at me and have mercy on me, Give strength to your servant, And save the son of your maidservant!
86.17
Make a sign in my favor! Let my enemies see it and be confused! For you help me and comfort me, O Lord!

Psalm 87
87.1
Of the sons of Korah. Psalm. Canticle. It is founded on the holy mountains.

The Lord loves the gates of Zion More than all the dwellings of Jacob.

Glorious things have been said about you, City of God! Pause.
87.4
I proclaim Egypt and Babylon among those who know me; Behold, the land of the Philistines, Tire, with Ethiopia: in Zion they were born.

And of Zion it is said: All were born there, And it is the Most High who establishes it.

The Lord counts when he inscribes the peoples: This is where they were born. Pause.

And those who sing and those who dance cry out: All my sources are in you.

Psalm 88

(88: 1) Song. Psalm of the sons of Korah. To the Chief Musician. To sing on the flute. Canticle of Heman, the Ezrachite. (88: 2) Lord God of my salvation! I cry day and night in front of you.

(88: 3) May my prayer come into your presence! Listen to my pleas!

(88: 4) For my soul is full of evils, and my life draws near to hell.

(88:15) Why, Lord, do you reject my soul? Why are you hiding your face from me?

(88:16) I am miserable and dying from my youth, I am burdened with your terrors, I am troubled.
