Prayer for the good use of the internet

My screen is on, and I turn to you, Lord, in the certainty that I will also meet you on these anonymous paths of the Internet, which cross the world.

You, who have taken on flesh,
and suffered, like us, the fatigue and the unknown of the world's roads,
accompany us today on this journey,
for here too there are difficult and tiring paths
like the dusty paths you trod in Galilee.

Teach us, Lord, to use this tool with profit and measure
and help us to avoid the perils of our journey:
that we do not allow ourselves to be dizzied by the overabundance of information,
nor lured by deceptive appearances, empty of content,
 that we know how to distance ourselves from every kind of unworthy slavery,
from the blindness of the one-track mind,
from the faceless paths of dehumanisation. 

Grant us, Lord, a clear understanding
to interpret the signs of our times,
and keep our hearts attentive to the prophetic voices,
where your Spirit - who blows where he wills -
encourages them and makes them arise,
sometimes familiar, like the known lights of the lighthouses on the coast,
and sometimes unexpected, like the glimmers of your providence in the darkness of certain nights.

And finally, when the screen goes out again
and we have the vain impression of having learned something
remind us that knowledge
are much more than this fragmentary information
that has passed fleetingly before our eyes,
and that the world will always be bigger
than we have seemed to understand,
for it reaches into the depths of every man
and then gets lost in the immense horizon of your Father's heart.
So be it.
