Saint Epain is invoked more particularly against varicose veins.
Saint Epain lived in Palestine. The governor of the province wanted him to be sacrificed to the pagan gods; but no threat could weaken the steadfastness of the saint, who then had his head cut off and died thanking God for having the happiness of being martyred for his name.

INVOCATION
O God who, by an admirable effect of your power, created man in your image and who, by a wonder of goodness, raised him up after his fall, grant me, through the intercession of Saint Epain, healing that I beg you to grant me. Through Jesus Christ Our Lord. So be it.
Saint Epain, who you always bend so tenderly on our miseries, pray for me.

PRAYER
You thunder your judgments upon me, O Lord, and all my bones have trembled with fear, and my soul is in deep dread. Forbidden, frightened, I consider the heavens to be unclean in your eyes. If you have found evil in your angels, and if you did not spare them, what will it be from me? The stars have fallen from the sky: me, dust, what should I wait for? The men whose works seemed laudable fell as low as one can fall, and I saw those who ate the bread of angels delight in the pasture of swine. There is therefore no holiness, Lord, if you withdraw your hand; no wisdom that is useful if you no longer direct it; no force that can be of help if you cease to support it; no assured chastity, if you do not defend it; there is no vigilance that serves us, if you do not watch yourself for us. Left to ourselves, we sink into the waves and we perish: come to us, we rise up and we live. For we are wavering, but you make us strong; we are lukewarm, but you set us on fire. So be it.
