The almond tree, which blooms early in the spring, is a symbol of renewal and rebirth. For the Hebrews, it represented a revelation, an advent. Shoqed, the almond tree in Hebrew, reveals man's likeness to God who made him in His Image. "When the almond tree blooms... man returns to his eternal home," says Ecclesiastes (XIII, 7).

What do you see, Jeremiah?" says the Lord.  And Jeremiah said, 'I see an almond tree branch. And the Lord said, "You have seen well, for I am hastening to do my word. (Jeremiah, 1, 11 - 12). Finally, according to Western esoteric tradition, the almond is a representation of what is obscure, hidden, secret, mysterious, buried deep within. Eating almonds is thus an initiation into secrets and mysteries.

In many traditions, the almond symbolises creative energy. The bitter, crushed almond has aphrodisiac properties. In certain regions of France and Europe, it was believed for a long time, and still is today, that a young girl who fell asleep under a flowering almond tree could wake up pregnant. Etymologically, almond is an alteration of amandala from the classical Latin amygdala, which comes from the Greek amagdala: amygdala. Located on the lateral wall of the larynx, an essential organ for phonation, the pronunciation of sounds and words, from a physiological point of view, the amygdala, or the two almonds, are perceived as the doors of the palate, both literally and figuratively.

Speech, and sexual energy

An almond dream can very well allude to speech, to the possible need for the dreamer to say, to express, or to reveal important feelings, or beliefs or convictions that he has buried deep in his mind, or that he hides from himself. His words will be bitter if he has inhibited them for too long, or sweet if he comes up with them spontaneously - as almonds are. Of course, such a dream also has a sexual connotation. However, regardless of its sex, the almond puts the dreamer in touch with his or her sublimated sexual energy (libido), transformed into pure creative energy, a source of deep regeneration.

Dream of eating one or more sweet almonds

You will have a revelation. Or you will receive an unexpected income. Or you will receive a proof of love. Or, if you are a woman, you are or will probably be pregnant, or, whatever your sex, you will learn of a birth.

Dream of eating bitter almonds

You will be the victim of an emotional or amorous disappointment. Or you will receive bad news.

In October 732, on the night before the battle of Poitiers between Charles Martel's army of Franks and the Arab army led by Amir Abd al-Rhaman, the latter, after having eaten almonds the night before, had a premonitory dream in which he saw himself losing the battle and dying, which was indeed the case. A very old tradition of Semitic or Arab origin attributes to almonds properties that are conducive to premonitory dreams.
