Saint Dymphna was born in Ireland to pagan parents. However, she was fortunate enough to be educated in the Christian religion and left Ireland to flee her father's wrath when he found out she was a Christian. It was in Belgium that she entered a monastery; but her father found her and killed her with his own hands, cutting off her head.
The absent are very specially recommended to her, and she is still prayed for for the unfortunate possessed.

INVOCATION:
Lord, may these prayers which we address to you be accompanied by the intercession of Saint Dymphna, and may we obtain, through her, the graces which we trust with confidence in your goodness. We pray to you through Our Lord Jesus Christ. So be it.
Saint Dymphna, gentle refuge and protector of the absent, watch over them and bring them safe and sound among us.

PRAYER:
I know, great God, that you are sufficient for yourself, and finding in you alone all your glory and all your happiness, you need neither my love, nor my fidelity, nor my homage. It is not for you, great God, that you help the souls who have recourse to you.
What could weak creatures who are only what you made them contribute to your happiness; which subsist only through you, and which would all fall back into the nothingness from which you pulled them, if that all-powerful eye which preserves them were to close on them for a single instant?
But, Lord, you are my God, my refuge, my happiness, my end and my principle; and if you can do without my prayers and my homage, my needs urge me to offer them to you unceasingly. You would not be my God, if men could be necessary for your glory; but neither would you be, if, being yourself alone necessary for their needs, you closed your ears to their most touching pleas; and if, after having placed them on the earth, you do not deign to meddle in all that concerns them. I will therefore not cease to say to you: Lord, you are my God; this adorable name says it all: it says, and that you do not need the creature, and yet you owe yourself to the creature who loves you, who adores you and who claims you. So be it.
