O my God who gave me an immortal weapon, do not allow me to tie it to perishable and deadly things.

Grant me to renounce forever the world and all things of the earth as not possessing them and that I trample on and despise all that is worldly.
That I constantly consider that the world is just a passing figure and a flying shadow.
That gold, silver, the dignities of the world may well prevent me from dying well, but cannot guarantee me from death.
Finally, the fear and observance of your commandments is the whole of man.
Lord, make me understand these truths so that I will not be like the people of the world whose portion is in this life. And one day I will see your face in justice. Amen.
