Guide me, sweet Light,
In the darkness that surrounds me,
Guide me forward!
The night is deep
And I am far from home;
Guide me forward.
Watch over my steps;
I do not ask to see
The distant horizon;
One step at a time is enough for me.
I have not always been like this;
I have not always prayed to You
To guide me forward.
I liked to choose
And see my way;
But now
You guide me
Onward.
I loved the brightness of the day and,
In spite of my fears,
Pride had dominion over me:

Of the years gone by.
For so long
Your power has blessed me;
Surely it will guide me
Always onward,
Through moor and marsh,
Rocks and streams,

And in the morning smile upon me
Those angelic faces
That I have always loved
And once lost.
