thanksgiving
The epilogue of the book of Ecclesiastes is a song of thanksgiving. Sick and the victim of grave slander, a man was now close to death. Prayer saved him and he thanked God for it. Before closing his book, the author states that during his life he sought wisdom, travelling a long and difficult road, but one that leads to happiness. "I want to give thanks to you, Lord King, I want to praise you, God my Savior, I give thanks to your Name. For you have made yourself my protector and helper, you have redeemed my body from perdition, from the snare of the slanderous tongue, from the lips of those who practice lies, and in the face of my adversaries you have made yourself my support and you have redeemed me - according to the greatness of your mercy and your Name - from the bites of people ready to devour me, from the hand of those who sought my life, from the many afflictions I have known, from the suffocation of a blaze that surrounded me and from the midst of a fire that I had not kindled, from the depths of the bowels of Hades, from the impure tongue and the false word - the slander of an unjust tongue to the king.
My soul saw death up close and my life was close to Hades below. I was surrounded on all sides, and no one to help! I looked to the men for help, and there was none! Then I remembered your mercy, Lord, and your work of old, that you deliver those who wait for you and save them from the hands of the enemies. And I brought up my prayer from the earth, and I brought up my supplication from the earth, praying that I might be preserved from death, and I called upon the Lord, the father of my Lord: "Do not forsake me in the days of affliction, in the time of the proud, when I am helpless; I will praise your name without ceasing, and I will sing it in thanksgiving. "And my prayer was answered: You saved me from perdition and delivered me from evil times. Therefore I want to give you thanks and praise you and bless the Name of the Lord. "(Si 51:1-12)
