"Lord Jesus, You wanted to give to the Church, through Saint Jean-Marie Vianney, a living image of yourself, and a personification of your pastoral charity. Help us, in his company and helped by his example, to live well this year for the priesthood. May we learn from the Holy Curé of Ars how to find our joy in staying for a long time before the Blessed Sacrament; as Your Word which teaches us is simple and daily; with what tenderness Your Love welcomes repented sinners; how consoling is the trusting surrender to Your Most Holy Immaculate Mother; as it is necessary to strive vigilantly against the Evil One.
Grant, O Lord Jesus, that our young people may also learn from the example of the Holy Curé of Ars, how necessary, humble and glorious is the priestly ministry that You want to entrust to those who open themselves to Your call. Help also in our communities - as in Ars at that time - come true those wonders of grace that You accomplish when a priest knows how to "put love in his parish". Make our Christian families feel at home in the church - where Your ministers can always be met - and know how to make their homes beautiful like a church. May the charity of our pastors ignite and nourish the charity of all the faithful, so that all vocations and all charisms given by Your Holy Spirit may be welcomed and valued. But above all, O Lord Jesus, grant us the ardor and the truth of the heart so that we can address ourselves to Your Heavenly Father, making our own the very words that Saint John-Marie Vianney used when addressing him. : “I love you, oh my God, and my only desire is to love you until the last breath of my life. I love you, infinitely lovable God, and I would rather die loving you than to live a single moment without loving you. I love you, Lord, and the only grace I ask of you is to love yourself forever. My God, if my tongue cannot say at all times that I love you, I want my heart to repeat it to you as many times as I breathe. I love you, O my divine Savior, because you were crucified for me; and because you keep me crucified here for you. My God, grant me the grace to die loving you and feeling that I love you." Amen.
