This little brown and beige passerine, which nests in the fields and sings as it flies, takes its name from one of its species, the crested lark, which the Romans called avis galerita, from galea: helmet, which gave alauda, then aloe. It is a very useful bird, since the lark feeds exclusively on insects. It flies up to an altitude of more than 400 metres.

Keeping a happy heart

When the bird of happiness presents itself to you in one of your dreams, you can simply believe in happiness, especially if you have just gone through a difficult experience or period. Moreover, if one or the other is not yet over, the lark in your dream tells you that it is virtually over, but that you have not yet become aware of it. If not, you are advised to "sing as you fly", as the lark does so well, in other words, to keep your heart happy, your good humour, whatever happens.

THE BIRD OF HAPPINESS

It is its melodious song that especially caught the attention of our ancestors. It is a song that stirs the listener to the depths of the soul, and it is all the more impressive because the bird has a very small wingspan. Moreover, the lark has the particularity of singing in full flight, which our ancestors saw as a natural manifestation of joie de vivre, happiness or a certain carefree attitude.

A singing bird, a bird of happiness and good fortune, the lark was sacred to the Gauls. According to a Greek legend, it was already present on earth and in the sky long before the existence of the gods. But it was also sometimes a symbol of inconstancy, infidelity or loose morals. "For the lark, the dog loses its master", says a French proverb.

Finally, let us quote these very beautiful greens of William Blake singing the lark:
"Her little throat works under inspiration; every feather
Of her throat, breast and wings vibrates with the divine effluence.
All Nature listens in silence, and the dread sun Stands still on the mountain, watching this little bird
With tender wonder and humility, with love and reverence.
(text quoted by Kathleen Raine, in The Creative Imagination of William Blake, Berg International, 1983).

Dream of a lark about to fly away, or in flight

You will experience great joy. Or one of your children is about to leave the nest and fly away from you.

Dream of a lark landing in front of you, or hearing it sing

You will get a promotion. Or, in any case, you will hear good news, and very interesting prospects will open up for you.

Dream of many larks

You are deluding yourself, developing or undertaking utopian projects, or you will receive proposals that have no follow-up. In other words, this dream warns you not to believe in the "lark's mirror", nor to spontaneously give your trust to others.

Dream of a wounded or dead lark

Someone may be fooling you, deceiving you or betraying you. Or you may lose money, or be "fleeced". Don't forget the refrain of the famous old French song, much loved by Quebecers: "Alouette, gentille alouette, je te plumerai..."
