            Lord, give us priests,

            Lord, give us priests.

            Lord, give us many priests,

            Lord, give us many priests.

Lord, give us many holy priests,

Lord, give us many holy priests.

Holy Mary, Queen of the Clergy, get us many holy priests.

St. Joseph, Patron Saint of the Holy Church,

            Holy Angels, and Archangels,

            Holy Patriarchs and Prophets,

            Holy martyrs and holy virgins,

            Holy Bishops and Confessors,

            Holy Founders of Religious Orders,

Saint Anthony of Padua, defender of the Holy Eucharist,

Saint Pascal Baylon, patron saint of Eucharistic works,

Saint John Mary Vianney, model of priestly sanctification,

St. Francis Xavier, patron saint of missionary priests,

Saint Therese of the Child Jesus, victim for priestly sanctification,

Saints and Blessed of the Lord,

To celebrate the Holy Mysteries with dignity,

To offer daily the Most Holy Mass,

To feed the people of the Lord of the Bread of Life,

To foster the splendours of divine worship,

            To regenerate souls through Baptism,

To instruct the children in the Holy Religion,

To raise up youth in the fear of the Lord,

To proclaim the word of God to all,

To convert all infidels and heretics,

To unmask and fight false doctrines,

To strengthen the faith of those who doubt,

To support and encourage those who weaken,

To raise up those who fall and reconcile them to God,

To bring back to God all those who have turned away from it,

            To safeguard Christian morality,

To fight vigorously against the corruption of morals,

            To bless the holy unions,

To defend the honour and sanctity of marriage,

To consolidate the happiness of our Christian homes,

To strengthen and console our sick and afflicted,

            To assist our dying,

To lead our dead to their final resting place,

To pray and offer for our deceased,

To give glory to God and peace to souls of good will,

Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, forgive us, Lord.

Lamb of God, who take away the sins of the world, hear us, Lord.

Lamb of God, who take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us, Lord.

V/ The Lord has chosen Himself from the priests,

R/ So that they may offer him worthy thanksgiving.

Let us pray: Almighty and merciful God, grant that the prayers of your faithful may be answered favourably, that those to whom you have granted, by the immense generosity of Your clemency, to be raised to the service of the heavenly Mysteries, may be worthy ministers of your sacred altars, so that what their voice utters, may be confirmed by Your sanctification. By N.S.J.C. So be it.

Litanies

Litanies are prayers characterised by the chanted repetition of intercessory requests. These intercessory requests are generally addressed to the Virgin Mary, the Sacred Heart or the Saints and are intended to solicit their intercession with God.

When to recite the litanies and what are they for?

The litanies are generally recited individually, depending on the difficulty for which help is desired, in groups (in families or in prayer groups) and in certain solemn liturgical ceremonies of the Catholic Church.

The Litanies of the Saints for example, are sung during the Easter Vigil, during baptism ceremonies, priestly or episcopal ordinations and on the feast of the Saints (All Saints).

The prayer of the Litany is foreseen, in particular, during the Easter Vigil, before the blessing of the baptismal water, and also during the celebration of baptism and ordinations to the sacred order of the episcopate, presbyterate and diaconate, as well as in the rite of the consecration of virgins and of religious profession in the rite of dedication of a church and an altar, during rogations, during Masses with stations and during penitential processions, to order the Evil One away in exorcisms, and finally to recommend the dying to the mercy of God.

The Litany of the Saints, which contains elements from both liturgical tradition and popular piety, illustrates the Church's trust in the intercession of the Saints, and highlights her experience of the communion that unites the Church in the heavenly Jerusalem and the Church still on pilgrimage on earth. It is permitted to invoke in the Litany of the Saints the names of those listed in the liturgical calendars of dioceses and religious institutes.

It is evident that it is forbidden to insert in the Litanies the names of persons whose cult is not recognised.

to God

To God, the being above all, nothing is impossible. Everything is possible with him. Whatever difficulties you find yourself in, trust in him, have faith. Pray to him and he will answer you.

Prayers addressed directly to God do not go through any intermediary. He receives them as they are. Some people prefer this type of prayer where they speak, in their hearts, directly to God.

God is present everywhere. Within us and without us. Even when we think we are alone, he is there. He sees us, he listens to us. He knows us better than we know ourselves.

Like a good father with his children, he is compassionate, merciful and always ready to forgive us our failings and sins.

Let us entrust ourselves to him, ask him for the grace to be a reflection of his love for mankind. Let us entrust ourselves to him and be attentive to the different signs and messages that he sends us every day, within us or outside us through our fellow human beings.
