ProtectionThis Novena to the Archangel Saint Michael and the nine Choirs of Angels obtains extraordinary graces and help from Heaven against afflictions and actions of demonic origin. During these nine days, accompany the Novena of Confession, prayers to Saint Michael, rosary, fasting... Let us not forget that some demons can only be driven out by prayer and fasting. Under ordinary conditions, a plenary indulgence can be earned during the novena (on a day of your choice), or within eight days. (Pius IX, 26 November 1876).
Recite the Confiteor every day, make your request, then say the Our Father three times, the Hail Mary and the Glory be to the Father. End with the following prayer (depending on the day).
First Day: in honour of the Seraphim
Most glorious Prince of the Celestial Militia, St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in the battle against princes and powers, against the rulers of this dark world, against the evil spirits that are spread through the air. Come to the aid of men whom God made in the image of His own Nature, and redeemed at great cost from the tyranny of the devil. So be it.
Second Day: in honour of the Cherubim
Saint Michael, Prince of the Angel Militia, I invoke you, answer me. I beg you to take my soul, on the last day, under your most holy guard and lead it to the place of refreshment, peace and rest, where the souls of the saints await in ineffable joy the coming judgment and the glory of the glorious resurrection. Whether I speak or remain silent, whether I watch, whether I walk or rest, keep me in the fulfilment of all my works, in all the acts of my life. Preserve me from the temptations of demons and the pains of hell. So be it.
Third Day: In honour of the Thrones
Great defender of the Christian people, St. Michael the Archangel, in order to fulfil with dignity the mission entrusted to you to defend the Church, overcome heresy, exterminate schisms and confound unbelief. Multiply your victories over the infernal monsters that want to destroy our faith. May the Church of Jesus Christ welcome new faithful and gather whole kingdoms so that it may populate Heaven with chosen souls, for the greater glory of the divine Redeemer, to whom you yourself owe your triumphs, your merits and your eternal bliss. So be it.
Fourth Day: in honour of the Dominations
O you, who are the prince and standard bearer of the good Angels, assist me always in your goodness and save me. From the legions of the angel of darkness preserve me, so that, under your guidance, I may share the light of the good Angels. Before the throne of the Supreme Judge, be my defender, plead my cause and conjure up the wrath of the Just Avenger. Through you, may my work, my rest, my days and my nights be blessed with prosperity; may my mind be always ready for the works of God. So be it.
Fifth Day: in honour of the Powers
Saint Michael the Archangel, you whom the Holy Church venerates as her guardian and protector, to you the Lord has entrusted the mission of introducing redeemed souls into heavenly bliss. Pray, therefore, to the God of peace to crush Satan under our feet so that he can no longer hold men in his chains and harm the Church. Present our prayers to the Most High, that the Lord may have mercy on us without delay. You yourselves, seize the dragon, the ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, and cast him in chains into the abyss, so that he may no longer deceive the nations. So be it.
Sixth Day: In Honour of the Virtues
Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, so that we may not perish on the day of the dreadful judgment. Most glorious prince, remember us, everywhere and always. When you were fighting the dragon, the voice of those in heaven was heard saying: "Hail, honour and glory to Almighty God!" The sea rose, the earth shook, when you came down from heaven, come to the rescue of God's people. So be it.
Seventh Day: In honour of the Principalities
Ô ! Saint Michael, Prince three times saint of the Sacred Militia, charged by God to organise and lead the angelic phalanxes, very worthy of all worship, praise and eulogy : Enlighten my inner senses, strengthen my poor heart troubled by the storms of this life, raise my spirit inclined towards the things of the earth to the heights of celestial wisdom; strengthen my faltering steps and do not allow me to abandon the path that leads to Heaven; heal the wounds of my soul; remove the trace of all the sufferings that my miseries and misfortunes cause in me. So be it.
Eighth Day: in honour of the Archangels
Archangel St. Michael, whose mission is to gather our prayers, lead our struggles and weigh our souls, I pay homage to your beauty -- so similar to that of God, that after his eternal Word no other heavenly spirit can compare to you -- to your boundless power in favour of those who devote themselves to you; to your will, harmoniously united to that of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, for the good of mankind. Defend me against the enemies of my soul and body. Make me sensitive to the comfort of your invisible assistance and the effects of your vigilant tenderness. So be it.
Ninth Day: in honour of the Angels
Glorious Archangel Saint Michael, great zealot for the glory of God and protector of the universal Church, to whom the Almighty has entrusted the mission of receiving souls at the exit of the body to present them to the most just Judge; deign to help me in my final battle. Accompanied by my good Guardian Angel, come to my aid and chase away from me all the infernal spirits. Do not allow them to frighten me then. Strengthen me in Faith, Hope and Charity, so that my soul, carried by you to its Judge, may be brought immediately to the place of rest, to reign there eternally with its Redeemer, in the society of the Blessed Spirits. So be it.
