All prayers Litanies
A litany is a prayer consisting of a long series of invocations to God, Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary, and the saints, said by a celebrant, his assistants, or the cantors, and followed by a formula recited or sung by the assembly.
In Catholicism, at the beginning of the 17th century, Pope Clement VIII, faced with the proliferation of local litanies, approved the publication of only the litanies of the saints and the Litanies of Loreto. To these litanies were added other litanies approved by the Roman Catholic Church, including the Litany of the Heart of Jesus, the Litany of the Holy Name of Jesus, the Litany of the Blessed Virgin, and the Litany of Saint Joseph.
