All prayers Mantras

A mantra (Sanskrit; devanāgarī: मन्त्र; "deliberation, maxim; sacred hymn, mystical formula, magical incantation") is, in Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism and Jainism, a condensed formula, formed of a single syllable or a series of syllables, repeated over and over again with a certain rhythm, in a meditation exercise or for religious purposes.

The most important thing is the sound emitted, not its meaning. When a mantra is recited, a vibration is generated, and it is this vibration that has power. The mantra is generally used for meditation; it acts on the mental, physical, emotional and spiritual levels. When our mind is present during meditation, it blocks the process. Reciting a mantra for a certain period of time allows us to turn away from the mind and enjoy the meditation.

In Tantra, these sounds are compared to divinities, conscious and living identities.

The OM mantra:

The best-known mantra is the OM mantra (or AUM), a universal sound, considered to be the primordial sound, it contains the vibration of the universe, symbolises God and is used as a prefix and sometimes a suffix to mantras.

The Mantra : OM MANI PADME HUM

Well-known to Tibetans and beyond, this powerful mantra represents the compassion and grace of all bodhisattvas and Buddhas. It has the power to purify the mind and open it to Love and Compassion.

The GAYATRI mantra :

This mantra has immense powers. It brings wisdom, purifies negative karma and can help to bring about enlightenment.

An interesting experiment is to associate a mantra with a mandala* to increase the power of meditation. In this way, you concentrate on the image and the sound and avoid mental chatter.

*A mandala is a sacred image in the same way that a mantra is a sacred sound.

We can open our chakras by chanting a mantra, for example we use the mantra om for the ajna chakra (third eye).

Note: Do not confuse mantra and sutra. Sutras can be sung, but they are texts attributed to Buddha.
