All prayers Prayers of Praise

Praise is the proclamation of virtues, the eulogy of a person. By our praise, we give glory to God, Father and Son. It is expressed in a special way by song.

The song of praise that resounded on the shores of the Red Sea after Israel had crossed it, and by which the people proclaimed the power of the Lord in deliverance, is a striking example of this.

Let us note that the last five psalms are particularly of the character of praise, each of them beginning and ending with these words: “Praise Jah” or “Hallelujah”! Our praise has a divine source and its object is a divine person. “From thee comes my praise” (Ps. 22:25) and: “Thou art my continual praise” (Ps. 71:6). Why? because He is very worthy of being praised (Ps. 96:4). Certainly, it is always in its place and beneficial in our prayers and we have constant reasons to express it. The confession of the name of Jesus constitutes for God a sacrifice of praise which is pleasing to Him.

Nebuchadnezzar, having recovered his intelligence, first used it to praise and magnify Him who lives eternally (Dan. 4:34). David, delivered from the hand of Saul, says: "I will cry to the Lord, who is worthy of being praised" (2 Sam. 22:4). The Lord Himself begins his prayer with these words: "I praise thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth..." (Luke 10:21). Let us note that praise can be addressed to man, whereas adoration, of which we will speak later, can have as its object only God alone. The apostle Paul praises the Corinthians in chapter 11, verse 2 of his first epistle while in verse 22 of the same chapter, he is prevented from doing so.
