Saints
Saint Abdon is a Holy Bishop who is invoked when threatened with loss of sight.
Saint Abdon or Abbon was born around 650. His holiness and his selflessness made him a remarkable bishop of Metz.
INVOCATION
My God, do not allow cruel fate to impose complete blindness on me. I beg you, through the intercession of Saint Abdon, to protect me in this cruel trial. Your will be done, Lord, but if possible, remove this chalice from me. Restore to my eyes the health they lost and may grace be returned to you forever. I beg you, through Our Lord Jesus Christ. So be it.
Saint Abdon, never pray in vain, deliver me and intercede for me.
PRAYER
O sweet Jesus, beloved Savior, in your cruel passion on the cross, you took, like a charitable physician, all the remedies in order to cure all our diseases. You healed us with your bloody sweat in the Garden of Olives; you healed us by the blood which the nails shed from your feet and from your hands which they pierced cruelly; you healed us with this bitter drink composed of gall and vinegar which was presented to you on the cross; you cured us by this ardent thirst which further aggravated your torment; and by doing the difficult work of our redemption, you have made us heirs of eternal life. Ah! Who could after that still refuse to love your holy cross, and to drink, after your example, to the dregs of the chalice of pain that you yourself drank for us, you the righteous par excellence.
So be it.
