God, you teach us in your word that Satan is a roaring lion who, circling around us continually, seeks whom he can devour, and that we have not only to struggle with flesh and blood, but also with malice spiritual which are in heavenly places; and we know that the world and our flesh continually tempt us.
What will we do to protect ourselves from such cruel and mortal enemies, especially bearing a law of limbs, corrupt flesh, which incessantly pushes us to sin. Lord, we recognize our weakness and black corruption; so we come to beseech your mighty help with ardor.
May your Holy Spirit sustain us against the assaults of Satan and the world, may he triumph over our flesh, subdue all our passions, and may he make us more than victorious.
Make us aware of the danger in which we are, so that we are vigilant in prayer. Turn away from us the opportunities to sin. Remove all kinds of temptations, or if you expose us to them, do not allow us to succumb to them; let neither the promises nor the threats of the world ever lead us to offend you; if we are to be made to fall either in error or in vice, give us the strength to resist powerfully all these attacks; strengthen us in your truth and in your fear, until you bring us into your Heaven, where we will not fear any temptation or any enemy, and where we will be with you eternally.
