Pope expresses his closeness to Nicaraguan Catholics

Two days after the attack on the cathedral of Managua with a Molotov cocktail, the Supreme Pontiff sent a message of solidarity to Nicaraguan Catholics.

Two days after the attack on the Cathedral of Managua, capital of Nicaragua, Pope Francis this Sunday reaffirmed his spiritual closeness to the Nicaraguan people, especially Catholics, after reciting the Angelus prayer.

"I am thinking of the people of Nicaragua who are suffering from the attack on the cathedral of Managua, where the highly venerated image of Christ who has accompanied and sustained the life of the faithful over the centuries has been badly damaged - almost destroyed. Dear Nicaraguan Brothers, I am close to you and I pray for you".

On Friday, a man wearing a hood threw a firebomb into the chapel of the "Blood of Christ", located in the Cathedral, almost completely burning the crucifix which has been venerated there for almost four centuries. An act that caused pain and amazement in the local Catholic community.
